The Avius-1 is a two-ton class, multi-role, medium altitude, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) being developed to conduct both reconnaissance and strike missions. The aircraft is equipped with radar and onboard satellite communications and can stay airborne for over 35 overs at ranges of 2,500 nautical miles (4,500+ kilometers). The Avius-1 has been designed to operate in a variety of extreme climates including the Arctic. The first flight is scheduled for 2017 and entry into service by 2020.

Russia is developing a heavy drone that could be used both as reconnaissance and combat aircraft, one of its designers said in an interview Wednesday.
